Linodesign – Beautiful linoleum!
LinoDesign combines 100% natural raw materials with modern technology: Linoleum, a sustainable, robust, and durable material, is transformed into contemporary, individual designs using the latest digital printing technology, creating attractive, natural floors for residential and commercial spaces.
The Characteristics
LinoDesign consists of renewable natural materials such as linseed oil, pine resin, wood, cork flour, and limestone. The raw materials are sourced primarily from Europe, ensuring short transport routes – including to our end customers, over 90% of whom are located in Central Europe. Lico pursues a zero-waste policy in its production; that is, every gram of raw material is reintegrated into the manufacturing process. Our production facility in Switzerland is completely energy self-sufficient; thanks to a photovoltaic system and waste recycling (thermal energy recovery), we produce more energy than we consume. With our 2nd Life concept, we go even further: even used flooring from the end customer is not simply disposed of or incinerated, but rather reused thanks to a click system (no gluing required) and transformed into a new product in a resource- and energy-efficient manner (2nd life).
Linodesign meets all the requirements of the Blue Angel, Floor Score, Green Guard Gold, and PEFC certifications. Furthermore, the product is currently undergoing EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification. The product will have a negative CO₂ footprint.
The product is manufactured in Switzerland under the strictest social criteria. Even the raw materials are sourced over 95% from Europe, ensuring that these production processes can also be closely monitored and controlled. With approximately 100 employees, Lico is a significant employer in an otherwise economically disadvantaged region at the tripoint of Switzerland, Italy (South Tyrol), and Austria.
Linodesign is manufactured from sustainable components: linseed oil, pine resin, wood and cork flour, and limestone. We prioritize short transport routes (especially within Central Europe). We also offer the Lico 2nd Life concept. This innovative 2nd Life process opens up new possibilities in sustainability and authentic recycling. When an old floor has reached the end of its lifespan, or if a new design is desired, the click-together flooring is returned to LICO by the end customer via their retailer and receives a defined payment. The old design is sanded off the floor tiles, which are then re-primed, digitally printed, and coated. The edges of the floor tiles are then re-profiled. Finally, the new, fully functional flooring is reintroduced to the market. In this way, we have expanded a resource- and energy-saving concept towards a circular economy. The Lico 2nd Life concept has received awards from organizations such as the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council).
