CERAMIN® – Healthy, recyclable, low-emission: The new Generation of mineral-based Coverings
CERAMIN® is a PVC-free, plasticizer-free, and fully recyclable mineral-based floor and wall covering. It is produced in Germany with low emissions, is robust, suitable for damp rooms, and offers a sustainable alternative to vinyl and ceramic coverings.
The Characteristics
CERAMIN® is a healthy material for wall and floor coverings and offers a sustainable alternative to traditional PVC flooring. Consumers are increasingly looking for greener, healthier, and low-emission products—CERAMIN® meets these requirements perfectly. CERAMIN® is based on a healthy mix of components consisting of 60% natural minerals and 40% recyclable polypropylene (PP). The clear, reduced formula is completely free of PVC, plasticizers, and chlorine, and relies on materials that are particularly suitable for indoor use and have very low VOC emissions. The mineral components come mainly from Europe, which ensures short transport routes and reliable raw material quality. The PP used is highly recyclable and can come from both primary and secondary sources, conserving resources and promoting material cycles. Production takes place in Germany using energy-efficient processes and strict quality standards. The mineral components originate predominantly from Europe, which ensures short transport routes and reliable raw material quality. The PP used is highly recyclable and can come from both primary and secondary sources, thereby conserving resources and promoting material cycles. Production takes place in Germany using energy-efficient processes and strict quality standards. The mineral base creates a particularly dimensionally stable, robust material that is suitable for use in damp rooms and meets high standards for healthy living. CERAMIN® actively contributes to creating healthy indoor spaces. At the end of its useful life, the material can be completely recycled and reused without downcycling. CERAMIN® has been extensively tested and certified. This includes Blue Angel, Cradle to Cradle Material Health Bronze, EPD, Greenguard Gold, and the eco-INSTITUT label. In addition, test reports according to relevant European norms and emission standards are available. CERAMIN® is a perfect fit for the Green Collection Award, as it shows how modern floor coverings can be developed with consistent material transparency, healthy living design, and genuine recyclability. The material combines ecological responsibility, resource efficiency, long-lasting performance, and high-quality design.
CERAMIN® focuses on healthy materials, controlled processes, and transparent quality standards. Production is based on an efficient, resource-saving process in which a material mix of 60% natural minerals and 40% recyclable polypropylene (PP) is processed into dimensionally stable, durable floor and wall coverings. The entire production process takes place in Germany under strict environmental requirements, continuous emission controls, and clearly documented quality guidelines. A central component of our practice is the recycling of PP. Production residues are completely regranulated and returned to production. In addition, post-consumer recyclates are increasingly being incorporated. This creates secure material cycles, reduces waste, and minimizes the use of fossil resources. The mineral raw materials come mainly from Europe and are subject to strict origin and quality assurance processes. Mineral technology results in products with very low VOC emissions, high dimensional stability, and a long service life, which contributes to a particularly healthy indoor environment. Compliance with these standards is confirmed by various independent tests. CERAMIN® has the following certifications, among others:
At CERAMIN®, social responsibility, transparent supply chains, and responsible use of materials are paramount. The products are based on a healthy mix of 60% natural minerals and 40% recyclable polypropylene (PP). Our raw materials come mainly from European supply chains that are subject to strict legal requirements. This ensures that child labor, forced labor, and exploitative working conditions are consistently excluded. All suppliers commit to complying with these standards through codes of conduct, self-disclosure, and random audits. CERAMIN® is produced exclusively in Germany and therefore meets the highest European requirements for occupational health and safety, wages, security, and minimum social standards. Our processes are designed to be resource-efficient, safe, and transparent: production residues are completely regranulated and returned to the cycle, combining social and ecological responsibility. There are also clear due diligence obligations in the supply chain. We conduct regular risk assessments, evaluate suppliers in terms of working conditions and occupational safety, and terminate partnerships if standards are not met. Proximity to European raw material sources also ensures transparency and traceability. The social and sustainable qualities of CERAMIN® are confirmed by independent certificates and evidence:
Certificate Recycled Plastics Content CERAMIN® fits into this topic area because it shows how responsible material selection, fair working conditions, verified supply chains, and healthy living products can be brought together in a holistic approach.
The production of CERAMIN® is consistently geared towards sustainable and low-emission manufacturing. The healthy material mix of 60% natural mineral and 40% recyclable polypropylene (PP) already enables significantly lower CO₂ emissions during production compared to PVC-based floor coverings. Our production facilities in Germany operate in an energy-efficient manner and use modern processes to keep material usage and emissions as low as possible. Production residues are completely regranulated and reintegrated into the cycle so that no material waste is produced. A central component of our sustainability strategy is the use of regional, European supply chains that ensure short transport routes and transparent environmental standards. In addition, we are currently in a pilot phase for a take-back and recycling system for CERAMIN® products.
Since January 1, 2025, we have been testing a concept for the voluntary return of leftover flooring and residual goods in collaboration with a retail partner. As part of this project, the materials are collected at partner stores, transported, and sent for possible material recycling. The project is being closely monitored and evaluated, and will only be rolled out on a wider scale if the pilot phase is successful. The manufacturing process is free of PVC, plasticizers, and chlorine, which means that CERAMIN® uses low-emission, non-toxic processes in all stages of production. These processes not only ensure healthy products, but also a clean production environment with very low VOC emissions. The ecological qualities of CERAMIN® are confirmed by several certificates, including:
