Product description

With influences from 19th Century Chinese wallpaper and French textiles to 20th Century ocean liners, this seasons launches for Inspired by V&A mark the collection by Flair Rugs as one of exceptional design integrity and craftsmanship.

Flair Rugs is releasing four new qualities in Inspired by V&A, part of the premium Luxmi collection. Each rug references works from the Victoria and Albert Museum archive, with over 2.1 million objects spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. For this season, Flair Rugs has looked to recent creative history, continuing a strong theme of early 20th Century design and embracing Chinese decorative art of the mid 19th Century.

Inspired by a fragile yet beautiful piece of Chinese wallpaper from 1860, Phoenix features a majestic central motif of the mythical bird, surrounded by blooming peonies. With symbology dominant throughout Chinese decorative art, the phoenix is an emblem of auspiciousness, the original pattern is reimagined in a 100% viscose quality for a shimmering elegance. Hand-tufted in India, Pheonix comes in a charming combination of duck egg blue and ivory and is available in three standard sizes.

For Moderne, Flair Rugs has returned to designs of the Art Deco period, referencing bold, geometric forms in an archetypal brown and ochre colourway. Inspired by a 1930s hand-knotted carpet given to the V&A by The Savoy Group, this rug is typically Art Deco and undeniably elegant, hand-tufted in a wool-rich/viscose blend for a subtle radiance.

Capturing the luxurious spirit and sense of adventure of 1930s ocean voyages, Rhythm has taken the same forms found in the original archive piece, recolouring in a grey and ochre colourway for the modern home. Hand-tufted in India from 100% wool, this style.

The introductions join existing Inspired by V&A designs - Jazz, Honeysuckle, Fanfare and Rhapsody - in the Luxmi collection, creating a series of beautiful hand-made qualities inspired by the worlds leading museum of art and design.
