Go4cork Blend w. Nike Grind Underlay-Amorim Cork Composites
Go4cork Blend with Nike Grind underlay aims to have a positive impact on the environment by creating a sustainable solution based on circular economy.
The new solution is based on a formulation that aims to provide high performance of the underlay, due to the unique characteristics of cork as a raw material: durability, comfort, impermeability, thermal, acoustic, and anti-vibration insulation, and cork's inherent sustainability.
Amorim Cork Composites combines Nike Grind EVA foam, from recycled scraps from Nike’s footwear manufacturing process, with cork composites.
The new solution is based on a formulation that aims to provide high performance of the underlay, due to the unique characteristics of cork as a raw material: durability, comfort, impermeability, thermal, acoustic, and anti-vibration insulation. According to a recent analytic study conducted by EY, Go4cork Blend with Nike Grind has a negative carbon balance of -5.5kg CO2 eq/m2. This means that the product’s associated carbon sequestration promoted by the cork oak forest exceeds the CO2 emissions from production. Go4cork Blend with Nike Grind is an excellent option for customers looking to achieve a balance between performance and environmental sustainability.
The environmental footprint study of the Go4cork Blend with Nike Grind underlay was conducted by EY, using a Life Cycle perspective.
It included consideration of the carbon sequestration achieved by the cork oak forest, using a cradle-to-gate approach, which contemplated the environmental impacts of all activities - from resource extraction, through production of all components, to the factory gate. The methodology of EY's studies was based on the ISO 14040/44 standards, complemented by the guidelines of the International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD). The data associated to production was provided by Amorim Cork Composites. The general production processes associated to the production of raw materials, energy, transport, and waste management were obtained from the ecoinvent 3.5 database.
Go4cork Blend with Nike Grind underlay was developed respecting the nature and considering nature as the starting point for a sustainable future.
Respect for nature is the essence of our existence. By promoting cyclical extraction of cork, without damaging the cork oak trees, Corticeira Amorim's activity ensures the viability of the cork oak forest, which is a natural and renewable resource, that offers numerous environmental, economic and social benefits. Studies indicate that for each ton of cork produced, the cork oak forest can sequester up to 73 tons of CO2, and thus helps to reduce the Global Warming Potential. But Nature is just the starting point. Our mission involves trying to go further and applying the best sustainability principles.
More than 50 years of circular economy principles. Striving continuously to reach zero waste and to optimize the added value of all raw materials
Growing our circular economy model - Blending cork with other materials Over time, our expertise in cork has enabled us to create new and highly technological formulae that blend cork with other materials, leveraging cork’s attributes. With cork at the core, blended with other materials - that are byproducts from other industries (industrial symbiosis) - we give materials a new life by creating new products while taking care of the planet.
Underlay Blend with Nike Grind has a negative carbon balance of – 5.6 kg/eqCO₂ per m², when taking into account the CO₂ sequestered by the cork oak forests and the emissions associated with the industrial process. Which also has:
Up to 11 times less Greenhouse gas emissions than PU Foam (Polyurethane) solutions
Consumes up to 8 times less Energy than any solution made of PU Foam

Corticeira Amorim continues to work on its Sustainable by nature program, which sets out its ambition for 2030. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 it established its ambition, principal areas of intervention and a plan for 2021-24. In 2021 it established the following quantitative goals by 2030:
100% cork valorization - Based in our driving motto “Nothing is wasted, everything is transformed”, we value 100% of cork.
In 2021 the Corticeira Amorim achieved:
Amorim Cork Composites:
500 applications for various sectors, allying innovation and circular economy practices.
Alongside its leadership activity in the cork industry, Corticeira Amorim promotes its fundamental role in building resilient Communities, with the fundamental objective of being an agent of change and value creation. It's generates economic value for the Communities where it is present at an international, national, regional and local level, directly, indirectly and induced, namely as a major employer, investor, taxpayer and local business partner.
Supporting culture and knowledge
Corticeira Amorim has been developing a broad plan of actions that make cork available to society, in its most diverse forms, the know-how and technical expertise of the team, encouraging their knowledge and enabling the development of educational, research and arts aimed at its employees and families, as well as at the wider community.
Fostering social equilibrium
The concern for social balance is one of the characteristics that accompany the Amorim Group's more than 150 years of activity – it was one of the first companies to provide workers with a cafeteria and a doctor, even in 1938.
