Go4cork ONE | Amorim Cork Composites
The Go4cork underlay ONE, supplied by Amorim Cork Composites - Corticeira Amorim's Composite Cork business unit, has been specially developed for the flooring industry. Go4Cork ONE embodies a revolutionary concept in sustainable design, specially designed to be the embodiment of the circular economy. Crafted with over 80% recycled and natural materials, it ingeniously utilizes PET foam sourced from the wind energy industry and PET foil and textiles. Leveraging post-production leftover foam PET, this innovation integrates cork strategically to maintain material thickness and durability over time.
Moreover, this industrial symbiosis by using innovative materials from other sectors indirectly contributes to the growth of sustainable industries and local economies - we give materials a new life by creating new products leveraging cork’s attributes while taking care of the planet. This product has a vapor barrier that ensures product efficiency, especially regarding ascending humidity, while pioneering a new continuous innovative technology, marking a milestone in the Go4cork range.

Through the development of a sustainable solution designed to be circular, Go4Cork aims to create a positive environmental impact by merging cork with remnants from other industries. This strategic combination of materials, especially utilizing leftover resources from the wind energy industry, is intended to foster a product that contributes positively to the environment and reduces the carbon footprint. Circular Economy: More than 50 years of circular economy principles, striving continuously to reach zero waste and to optimize the added value of all raw materials:
Innovative Technologies: This new underlay is the number ONE product using the new continuous innovative technology, new to the cork business, which translates not only into product but also production efficiency. Synonymous with sustainability and quality, the Go4Cork ONE sets a new standard in the underlay and cork industry.
It is made in a single step, reducing the number of stages prone to creating waste and energy consumption. Photovoltaic project: Corticeira Amorim is determined to increase the consumption of energy derived from renewable sources, both through selecting energy suppliers based on the proportion of renewable energy in their mix and through direct investment in photovoltaic projects. With an investment exceeding 11 million euros during the period of 2021-2024, 22,000 KWp will be installed using over 40,000 solar panels placed on the roofs of the factories. The objective is to have the primary industrial units sourcing a portion of their energy consumption from photovoltaic energy. The produced energy will be for self-consumption, representing 20% of the Group's electricity consumption and averting the emission of approximately 14.6 thousand tCO2eq per year. In 2022, 12,672 GJ of energy were generated from these panels, which, combined with the electricity produced through cogeneration (4,019 GJ), accounts for 3.2% of the total electricity consumed (522,886 GJ). This project notably contributed to reducing energy costs and enhancing the sustainability of Amorim Cork Composites' production process while supporting environmental preservation.
Additionally, noteworthy are the certifications attained for quality, environmental, and energy systems. Furthermore, in 2022, Corticeira Amorim achieved: 100% use of cork: 1052 tons of recycled cork; 89% non-cork waste recovery rate; 82% consumed materials from renewable sources; 88% sustainable materials consumed. Amorim Cork Composites: 500 applications for various sectors, allying innovation and circular economy practices.
Corticeira Amorim promotes its fundamental role in building resilient communities, with the fundamental objective of being an agent of change and value creation. It generates economic value for the communities where it is present at an international, national, regional, and local level, directly, indirectly, and induced, namely as a major employer, investor, taxpayer, and local business partner.
