AcoustiCORK T92 | Amorim Cork Composites
The AcoustiCORK T92 is the first 100% cork underlay for LVTs (Luxury Vinyl Flooring). Created with more than 80% of natural materials, its compressive strength is higher than 400kPa, and its punctual conformability is higher than 0.5mm, which meets the rigorous standards set by the LVT industry. This resilient cork underlay provides impact noise reduction, thermal insulation, and LVT click protection.
Sustainable and highly durable solutions made of agglomerated cork assure sound insulation, improve thermal comfort, and protect the floor of any space. Cork is a common denominator used in all our underlays. When applied beneath a flooring system, a cork-based underlay provides greater comfort, protection, and longevity to the final floor.
Die Eigenschaften
Cork is known as “nature’s foam” due to its alveolar cellular structure. It has a closed-cell structure making it lightweight while supporting the floor, preventing deformities. It is sustainably harvested by specialized professionals without damaging the tree, thus enabling it to grow another layer of outer bark that, in time, will be re-harvested. Over the course of the cork oak tree’s life, which lasts 200 years on average, the cork may be stripped around 17 times. This means that cork is not only a natural raw material but also renewable and recyclable. Furthermore, Amorim Cork Composites incorporates cork production waste from cork stoppers into its products, sourcing from its own manufacturing as well as other companies unable to utilize this surplus within their product portfolio. In doing so, we promote the complete valorization and utilization of cork. This approach underscores our commitment to sustainability and maximizing the potential of cork resources, ensuring minimal waste and optimal utilization across the industry.
AcoustiCORK products offer the perfect match between performance and sustainability. The blend of cork granules and various resins yields a diverse portfolio of materials for acoustic insulation and vibration control. An Acousticork material, based on cork, ensures enduring performance and material stability throughout the entire lifespan of the product. Moreover, this cork underlay protects the flooring from imperfections that may arise in the subfloor, eliminating telegraphing effects that often occur with floor usage.
In many cases, this quality can lead to savings in both material and labor and it avoids using other alternative materials that are not as sustainable as cork in the process.
Cork, renowned for being a natural, renewable, and biodegradable material, stands out as an environmentally conscious choice, especially in its application for underlays. Its use in this capacity not only champions sustainability but also champions healthier living environments. One notable advantage lies in cork's hypoallergenic properties. Unlike synthetic or chemically treated materials, cork exhibits characteristics that are gentle on individuals sensitive to common allergens. By naturally resisting the development of allergens such as dust, mold, and mites, cork underlays create a more accommodating indoor space for those prone to allergies. This innate property not only promotes healthier indoor air quality but also offers peace of mind to individuals seeking a more allergen-resistant living space.
The synergy of cork’s eco-friendliness and hypoallergenic nature makes it a compelling choice for those focused on fostering both environmental sustainability and personal well-being within their living spaces. Additionally, the rising urbanization and increasing population in urban areas are leading to stricter noise and vibration standards and regulations. Consequently, there's a heightened demand for high-quality and efficient acoustic and vibration isolation systems to address both internal and external sources within each building.
Photovoltaic project: Corticeira Amorim is determined to increase the consumption of energy derived from renewable sources, both through selecting energy suppliers based on the proportion of renewable energy in their mix and through direct investment in photovoltaic projects. With an investment exceeding 11 million euros during the period of 2021-2024, 22,000 KWp will be installed using over 40,000 solar panels placed on the roofs of the factories. The objective is to have the primary industrial units sourcing a portion of their energy consumption from photovoltaic energy. The produced energy will be for self-consumption, representing 20% of the Group's electricity consumption and averting the emission of approximately 14.6 thousand tCO2eq per year.
In 2022, 12,672 GJ of energy were generated from these panels, which, combined with the electricity produced through cogeneration (4,019 GJ), accounts for 3.2% of the total electricity consumed (522,886 GJ). This project notably contributed to reducing energy costs and enhancing the sustainability of Amorim Cork Composites' production process while supporting environmental preservation. Additionally, noteworthy are the certifications attained for quality, environmental, and energy systems.
Corticeira Amorim promotes its fundamental role in building resilient Communities, with the fundamental objective of being an agent of change and value creation. It generates economic value for the Communities where it is present at an international, national, regional, and local level, directly, indirectly, and induced, namely as a major employer, investor, taxpayer, and local business partner.
We regularly monitor the actions outlined in our sustainability plan, which encompasses the following objectives for 2030:
Furthermore, Corticeira Amorim created the “Sustainable by Nature” program, which settles on the following topics:
