The Mediation Centre of the Croatian Chamber of Economy is an institution dedicated to organising and carrying out mediation proceedings in business disputes. Before it was established in July 2002, mediation had been carried out by the Permanent Arbitration Court. The proceedings handled by the Centre allow the settlement of business disputes in a way that is satisfactory to all the parties and that may create conditions for further business co-operation. Through the Arbitration Court and the Mediation Centre, the Croatian Chamber of Economy provides to entrepreneurs an integrated framework that allows fast and adequate settlement of business disputes outside a court of justice. The current statistics of the Mediation Centre show that the agreement is reached in more than 70 per cent of the cases where the mediation is accepted. The mediation proceedings are conducted under the rules agreed by the parties and in the framework of the Law on Mediation and the Mediation Rules. The Croatian Chamber of Economy provides the personnel, technical equipment and material resources, in order for the mediation proceedings to be conducted speedily and proficiently. There are 130 mediators of different professions on our list of mediators, among which are attorneys, economists, engineers, etc. They conduct the mediation proceedings according to the Mediation Rules, adhering to the Code of Ethics for Mediators. The mediation proceedings can be instituted not only before the Mediation Centre in Zagreb but also before any Regional Mediation Centre (Koprivnica, Osijek, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Varaždin) as well as before other County Chambers.
