The judges for the 2016 European competition for the interior furnishing trades have reached their verdict. The first place went to Miriam Kurmann from Switzerland. In second place was Anita Dash from Germany. Renate Gschirr from Austria took the third place. The winners received their prizes on 17 January 2016 from Norbert Berndt, president of the EuroInterior Central Association for Interior Furnishing (Germany). The competition is staged once every two years by EuroInterior and hosted by DOMOTEX. The tagline for 2016 was "From DAO to ZEN".
On two days of the show, the two top-ranked entrants from the corresponding national competitions held in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol and Switzerland in 2014 and 2015 showed what they are made of. Skill, precision and a sure sense of style are needed in order to create something impressive in a very short space of time. The challenge facing the eight contestants was a daunting one: to design room settings in the style of renowned towns and cities, while taking cues from fashionable trends of the day. They were given a broad array of modern materials to work with. The contestants lined their room settings with wallpaper or other wall coverings, installed flooring, dressed a window and made an upholstered ottoman. The finishing touches came in the form of accessories individually selected by each contestant to stamp his personal style signature on the design scheme.
The room settings were put together in real time before a live audience, which not only gave an authentic picture of the creative process at work, but also served as a source of inspiration. Meanwhile look books presented the latest fashion trends in the form of mood boards accompanied by brief descriptions.
The competition was held for the first time at DOMOTEX in 2008. The member associations of EuroInterior are the Central Association for Interior Furnishing (Germany); interieursuisse – Swiss Association of Interior Decorators, Furniture Dealers and Saddlers (Switzerland); the Federal Guild of Wallpaper Hangers and Interior Decorators (Austria); and the South Tyrol Guild of Wallpaper Hangers and Interior Furnishers (Italy). The jury is made up of representatives from all four national bodies.
