What do the visitors say about the the world's leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings?
Michael Kovac, Purchasing Manager for Floor Coverings & Accessories at SÜDBUND – the Purchasing Association for Home Textiles based in Backnang, Germany
"SÜDBUND takes part in DOMOTEX every year. This time we organized our first-ever delegation trip to DOMOTEX for our members. We're thrilled about all the inspiration we were able to gather, including insight into the latest floor covering advancements and trends. It’s already clear to us that we’ll be back with an even larger delegation in 2019."
Nea Tuominen, ALA Architects, Helsinki, Finland
"During DOMOTEX the most interesting and inspiring stands for me were the Aquafil, Bestwool, Papilio, Forbo, Objectfloor, Drytile and Tisca rugs. Aquafil was interesting because of the material they use (Econyl). Sometimes an artificial material can also be ecologic and beautiful even though architects usually prefer the natural materials. I didn't know this material before.
Bestwool and Papilio had great looking natural material rugs which I could see myself using in high quality spaces in smaller projects. I've been using Forbo flooring in lot of projects so it was nice to see their novelties. Drytile was a new method of laying tiles without adhesive and I can see that could be useful in some project for ex. that have installation flooring that need to be openable through out the flooring. Installation flooring is usually not combatible tiling. Tisca rugs had a really well though through stand with inspiring presentation. I really enjoyed their stand.
The theme was uniqueness and many provided unique solutions for carpets. That to me was not hugely interesting because even though I am an architect I usually am looking for ready made solutions that someone more specialicied in carpet design has already thought through. I think the uniqueness can be interesting to developers etc still.
Overall it was way more extensive fair than I had expected and had many interesting things to see for architects as well."
Matthias Salaets, Elding Oscarson, SE‐Stockholm, Sweden
"As a young architect I was unaware of the extents of the world of carpets and textiles. Thanks to AIT I had the opportunity to visit DOMOTEX together with a group of talented architects from around Europe. At the fair I discovered new and inspiring materials & products that can lift up many our future projects."
Mohamed Sheriff, GB‐London
"The value of attending DOMOTEX was seeing what manufacturers are proposing and I particularly like the university studies of possible future flooring trends. Apart from DOMOTEX it was great speaking to those in other practices and hope those discussions will continue."
Sara Spiro, saraspiro sa, Zurich, Switzerland
"The DOMOTEX fair was an exciting experience. I'm not a habitual fair visitor, I had no specific expectations. So I just started Friday morning with a walk and went through the halls looking at the stands and it felt like travelling the world along the traditional carpet regions.
It was a very inspiring 'journey', which the grouping of the stands according to their origin made possible. Further I have to emphasize the high quality of the exhibition content, be it the innovative part, the creative part, the production part or the products themselves. And there was this special area for the more visionary concepts, standing out with it's attractive space design, enhancing the fundamental meaning of visions for future production."
Cherry Cheung, Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, Madrid / Berlin, Spain/Germany
"UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE has opened our eyes to the uniqueness created through the technologies ranged from precise customization to an organic spontaneity, which are not only meeting design requirements but also deem to provoke new ideas."
Peter Crerar Architect and Interior Designer, Oro Bianco Interior Design Ltd
"I would strongly recommend a future trip to DOMOTEX. I had the chance to explore the world of flooring and rug suppliers from all over the globe. The scale of the event was greater than any trade show that I had ever experienced in the UK and there were also displays of innovative new technology."
Jacqui Smith, Director, HomeSmiths
"My trip to DOMOTEX was extremely worthwhile. As a designer working in healthcare as well as private residential I was interested in finding new suppliers for both sectors. I came away having met providers of barrier matting, contract carpets, carpet tiles and luxury hand woven rugs.
To me, trips like these are not just about finding new suppliers but about expanding general product knowledge and also networking with others in the industry."
DES ADEMAJ, Creative Director, Fenton Whelan
"I had a wonderful time at DOMOTEX and found the trip very useful in expanding my awareness of the event and its size. It's a one-stop shop for all your projects. Floor finishes needs, with a large variety of products and suppliers from all over the world."
Elisabetta Carbone, Pascall + Watson
"DOMOTEX is a very well organised sector-specific international fair that not only does what it says on the tin, but goes over and beyond, offering a valuable insight into the world of floor coverings and rugs. I found it extremely useful, stimulating and educational."
