Which carpets are the trendsetters, who is the most creative designer, what is the most innovative mix of fashionable colours and traditional knotting techniques?
The five members of the jury for the sixth Carpet Design Awards 2012 faced a tough challenge: choosing the best from a field of 211 beautiful hand-made carpets in both traditional and modern styles.
30 carpets made it to the final round, and were put on display in Hall 21, where visitors and exhibitors could admire and feel them. All were agreed that hand-made carpets, whether traditional or contemporary in design, form the basis of stylish living and innovative interior design today.
The finalists in the Carpet Design Awards benefit not just from their presence at DOMOTEX - they also get a lot of publicity through a mention in the award brochure and international press coverage. Within the industry the award is seen as a badge of excellence, making it a key marketing and PR tool for award-winning firms.
On the Sunday of the show the wait was finally over: the names of the winners chosen by the jury in a total of ten categories were announced to a packed auditorium.
Jury member Nina Yashar: "These pieces are floor art, no question, and in recent years they have made a big comeback, regaining their place in our affections and in our living rooms." New for this year was the category "Best Studio Artist Design". An eleventh category was reserved for DOMOTEX visitors to nominate their own favourite designs.
